Late last night in the French city of Nice, 80 people were killed when a large truck plowed through a crowd celebrating French National Holiday – Bastille Day in a terror attack.
The driver first shot a gun into the crowd before driving two kilometers along the Promenade des Anglais, the main street and mowing down people who had gathered to watch the fireworks to celebrate Bastille day.
The killer has been identified as Pierre-Henry Brandet. He has since been shot and killed by the police who found firearms, explosives and grenades in the truck.
President Hollande in a television address said,
We cannot deny that it was a terror attack
World leaders have from Obama to Theresa May have all condemned the Nice terror attack and so have celebrities! From Genevieve Nnaji to Paris Hilton have all taken to social media to pay tribute to victims of the attack and call for an end to terrorism using the hashtag #PrayForNice which has become the number one trending topic on Twitter worldwide.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
