Over the weekend campaign banners with the tagline: #BringBackGoodluck2015 have been popping up across the country. The insensitive slogan, which is being used to campaign for the reelection of the current president of Nigeria – President Goodluck Jonathan, by a GEJ support group, is clearly a rip off of #BringBackOurGirls.
The #BringBackOurGirls hashtag was a global trending topic used to to campaign for the safe return of over 200 Chibok school girls kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists back in March.
The #BringBackGoodluck2015 campaign slogan has angered Nigerians home and abroad and everyone is talking about it! Shout out to EME boss & singer Banky W who wasn’t afraid to speak on probably what many of his entertainment industry colleagues were thinking, when he called out the campaign in an Instagram post yesterday, he shared a pic of the campaign banner and wrote, “Ridiculous. No shame, Whatsoever.”
The Washington Post had this to say about the hashtag, “This may be the most inappropriate political hashtag of the year”
To say this campaign has angered many Nigerians would be putting it mildly!
In response to the backlash the President has order all campaign posters to be removed. A statement was released to that effect this morning. Read it after the jump
