Reminisce’s Baba Hafusa Album Makes History As First Nigerian Hip Hop Album On The Billboard Charts



Baba Hafusa, the 3rd studio album by Nigerian rapper Reminisce has just debuted at Number 12 on the Billboard World Music Albums Chart.


So far the only other Nigerian album to make it on the Billboard World Charts are Tuface Idibia’s Ascension as well as ASA’s Beautiful Imperfection which debuted at number 12 and number 5 respectively. No Nigerian Hip-Hop album has ever made it to the Billboard Charts until now.

Last month Jay Z and a bunch of other celebrity musicians such as Beyonce, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Kanye West, J. Cole and a few others recently launched a music streaming service called Tidal. Since it’s launch Tidal has faced heavy criticism with reports that even Kanye has jumped ship.

But today the business mogul who hardly ever tweets got on Twitter to clear the air about Tidal and other competing music streaming services and in his tweets he confirmed that Tidal is making a move to sign Nigerian artistes.

He wrote,

My cousin just moved to Nigeria to discover new talent. Tidal is a global company.

D’Banj Allegedly Sued & Summoned To Court Over Unpaid Debts? Photos Of Courts Docs On His Gate!



Towards the end of last year there were reports in some sections of the press that D’Banj was being sued by by a man named Henry Ojogho over an alleged N60 loan taken out by the Kokomaster [READ HERE IF YOU MISSED IT]

To lend further credence to the story it would appear that court documents summoning the pop star to appear before a judge have now been allegedly pasted on the gates of his Lekki Phase 1 home in Lagos.


Phyno Speaks On How Him & Olamide Inspire Each Other



It’s common knowledge that Phyno & Olamide are two of the hottest rappers in the new generation of rappers, they have successfully fused hip hop with their native dialects and made it super marketable.

They have also collaborated on a couple of projects together and are reported to be working on a collabo album together.

The leader of the Supreme Mavin Dynasty Don Jazzy is getting ready to take his doro brand to the United Nations. The producer has revealed that he would be performing alongside other artistes from around the world for the UNICEF Imagine campaign at the United Nations general assembly in New York.

The producer shared a few of himself rehearsing and visiting the United Nations.

MI Abaga Addresses Critics About Why He Had So Many Guest Appearances On The Chairman Album

MI Abaga’s latest album “The Chairman” which was four years in the making sure has a lot of guest features. From Wizkid to 2Face Idibia to Seyi Shay to Patoranking, every single song on the 17 track album had a guest appearance apart from one track.

While many who haven’t listened to the album may feel M.I. was trying to hide behind the many guest appearances, he says that was not the case.

Making Moves: Seyi Shay Records New Music At P. Diddy’s New York City Studio With Swizz Beatz Producer [Photos]



Singer Seyi Shay is making some major music moves right now in New York City. The Murda hitmaker is hooking up with Music Manty who is a producer and songwriter for hip hop star Swizz Beatz as well as recording artiste Kelli Pyle to lay down tracks at P. Diddy’s famous studio 321 Studios popularly known as Diddy’s House.

The same studio where many superstar recording artistes have created their hit tracks.

An excited Seyi shared the news with her fans on Instagram, writing, “All night studio session at #321 #diddyshouse@iamdiddy with my positive award winning talented like maddd musical genius angel @musicmanty .@swissbeats is missing from this pic. What a legendary pair!! Can’t believe we finished at 7am”

She also posed up alongside Grammy award plaques.

Album Review: Is MI Abaga’s “The Chairman” Worth The Hype & 4 Year Wait?



4 years is a long time to go without releasing an album these days, and that’s exactly how long it has been since MI Abaga released his sophomore album M.I 2, back in 2010.

In that time, a lot of acts have popped up in Nigerian Music, naija rap has come a long way in that time, indigenous rap has become “cool”, with the likes of Olamide, Reminisce and Phyno being some of the most consistent in that field, as Wizkid, Ice Prince, Davido, Iyanya, Flavour, P-Square and a lot more have become internationally recognized artistes.

So, how can the self-proclaimed “African Rapper No 1” show he still got it? Answer: release the most complete rap album from Nigeria in a long time. Which he has done with “The Chairman”.

Terry G Says Frustration Led Him To Sell Out To Do Apako Music + How Baby Mama Runs His Water Business



A lot of times musicians catch a lot of heat when they “sell” out & start putting out commercial music but the truth is they have to eat!Terry G started out singing in his church choir, then went on to do R & B, and when that wasn’t bringing in a money frustration led him to do the Apako music he is currently doing and making a lot of money from.

In an interview with Leadership Nigeria, when asked how he became a musical success, he said

My brother if I tell you say I know how, na lie I dey lie (laughs). I have been studying the industry and I have learnt to give the people what they want. I started with Rhythm and Blues and went to shoot my video in South Africa. The buzz I got from the song was not satisfactory, so I became frustrated and maybe that frustration led me to do the street music I’m doing now- the Apako song.

Terry G also owns a water packaging business and has just opened a factory in Lagos. Speaking on how he balances his business & music he replied,

I have a good management team and my baby mama and fiancée manages this company for me. Her name is Mimi Omoregbe. I’m at rest that no one will steal my money because she is sound and good in business. Mimi, the mother of my son, is based in London and comes here often.


“I Believe Indigenous Hip-Hop Is The Future Of Nigerian Music” – Olamide Addresses Why He Only Raps In Yoruba



Olamide has carved a niche for himself in the Naija hip-hop market and he is ruling it! He is known mainly for rapping in Yoruba and even if you don’t understand a word he is saying you can’t help but feel his flow.

Seeing as he is such a gifted lyricist many have wondered why he raps predominantly in the Yoruba language. Speaking to City People magazine recently Olamide addresses why he chose to rap only in Yoruba.
